The Thames at Woolwich, c.1861, George Washington Wilson, 1883

Photograph of a sailing boat moored on the mud at the side of the river thames in the foreground. In the middle distance, two smaller sailing boats flank a larger, clipper like vessel with tall sails in the background. In the far background stand buildings, possibly the royal arsenal. This photograph is a later carbon copy which is a process that is less susceptible to light damage, unlike the original albumen photograph that was prone to fading over time. Provenance from an album of photographs collected and arranged by albert, prince consort, between 1860 and 1861. Object Type: photograph. Date: 1883.
