Portrait of Donna Livia Orsini Cesarini, Duchess of Civitanova, with her sons Don Alessandro and Don Virginio, Scipione Pulzone
"a refined testimony of the portraiture dedicated to the powerful roman aristocracy on the threshold of the 17th century, the canvas comes from the collections of the cesarini dukes, for whom it was executed. It passed from their roman palace to that of genzano in 1866, the date in which an inventory of the goods preserved in the palace was drawn up by the painter tommaso minardi who attributed the painting to the school of scipione pulzone. Recently the painting had been attributed to scipione pulzone by andrea g. De marchi and by maria teresa cantaro (1). The first to raise doubts about pulzone's authorship was antonio vannugli, who instead suggested the attribution to pietro facchetti (2), today confirmed and supported by francesco solinas and laura bartoni in an essay currently being published.
