iconographic description:
a woman with an animal face stands in front of a pedestal table on which rests a tea set and an open bible. With a stern face, she extends her finger peremptorily and holds in her left hand a flogger made of dry twigs. She is wearing a voluminous turban trimmed with feathers and wears black fishnet gloves as well as many bigoted trinkets. Excerpt from peines de coeur d'une chat anglaise, by h de balzac (in private and public life of animals, j. Hetzel librarian-publisher, 1867): "on seeing the proof of what she called my intemperance and my lack of education, she seized me and whipped me vigorously with birch rods, protesting that she would make me a lady or that she would abandon me. [. . . ]in this shines forth the perfection of english morality which concerns itself exclusively with appearances"
