In this allegorical drawing from 1524, peter vischer the younger depicted martin luther in the form of hercules, who leads the youth, the fettered conscience and the people from the roman church in ruins to christ, while the vices attributed to the curia flee into the fire. In contrast, the ruler, as the personified justice, is courted by the christian virtues. The drawing was once owned by goethe. Date: 1524.
