The duke of noailles is here depicted full-length, three-quarter length, wearing the blue ribbon of the holy spirit and the marshal's baton. Career: served in the ranks of the king's bodyguards (captain in 1661, brigadier in 1665), camp marshal (1677). Governor of languedoc and duke and peer (1678), decorated with the order of the holy spirit (1682), governor of roussillon (1682-1689), commanded the army of spain (1689), named marshal of france and knight of saint-louis (1693).
