iconographic description:
genre scene. Exterior scene: street, houses. Characters: a woman in clogs, wearing an apron and headdress, holds a wickerwork cheese board and a scale attached to her belt. The weights are placed near the cheeses. She seems to present these dishes to a water carrier, wearing a large hat. Behind them is a horse pulling a cart loaded with a large barrel of water marked "n°20 / budin". Its owner appears to be harnessing or unharnessing it. Two dogs play in front of the horse. Historical commentary:
this piece has been considered until now as one of the drawings for the 24 plates engraved in dresden and schleiz in 1819. Wouldn't it rather be a study used for this suite, and completed for its own sake? the clothing of the characters is identical to that of the other scenes in the album.
