Artist's description: 'this gun was originally captured from the germans in the battle of arras and used against them. The enemy then recaptured it in his futile advance against arras in march 1918. It was finally retaken by canadian troops in their last advance, having been put out of action by our shells. Image: a damaged howitzer sits in a bomb crater, the barrel facing down towards the ground and partially obscured by the crater. Camouflage netting dangles from the howitzer's undercarriage and there are various pieces of debris in the foreground. A hill is visible in the background to the right. Date: 1919 (First World War).
