From the series "political ashes ceremony". See pl. N°2 (pl. 250 of number 121) and pl. No. 3 (pl. 251 of number 121). The title is a latin quotation from genesis, verse 19, meaning: “remember, man, that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. ” on the left are three characters, figures of the people, in the frame of a door, perched at the top of two steps: a man (having participated in the july revolution) is holding in the air a paving stone bearing the dates of the three glorious years "27. 28 // 29" (july) which he is about to throw at the group of characters in front of him. He is accompanied by two children ("these children [children] are the heroic kids who made the barricades", in explanation): one, wearing a phrygian cap decorated with the tricolor cockade, carries a bag containing cobblestones, while the other holds a dish on which there are two other cobblestones. The group of figures advancing is made up of members of the government. From left to right: louis-philippe, disguised as paillasse (the buttons of the costume are pear-shaped). He placed his hat decorated with the tricolor cockade on the ground. On his knees, he joins his hands to beg the common men to spare him. Then dupin, disguised as a savage and holding a club bearing the inscription “joke”. Then, the conqueror of holland (the duke of orléans). Then comes lobau, wearing an old regime wig, a large white apron and holding a clyster syringe in his right hand. Soult, dressed in the fashion of louis xiii, rests his right knee on a crutch. Finally, thiers, wearing the clothing of a little white devil (he wears a white cap with horns, and a tail protrudes from his pants). The pl. Warns the government not to betray the republican ideals which presided over the birth of the july monarchy. It recalls the fundamental role of the people in the establishment of the regime. She intends to remind the king and the ministers that it is thanks to the people that the july monarchy was able to see the light of day, and threatens to topple the regime in place if republican ideas are flouted. The explanation is very clear: “remember that it is i, i people, who made you all, and that i can undo you tomorrow if you are perjurers, if you are prevaricators, if you are lavish with my blood and my sweat, if you waste my property, if you chain my freedom. ” person / character represented: thiers, adolphe; louis-philippe i, king of the french; dupin, andré marie jean-jacques (known as dupin elder); soult, nicolas-jean de dieu; mouton, georges, count of lobau; orléans, ferdinand-philippe d', duke mode of acquisition: retrospective registration date of acquisition: 20–02–2013 institution: maison de balzac. Date: En 1833.
