John the Evangelist and Prochorus by E.Lambardos (1602), 1602

John the evangelist and prochorus 1602, 65x113cm. Emmanuel lampard "beginning of the text of the apocalypse, beginning of the gospel of john, oag(ios) prochoroc, chier emmanuel tou lampardou axv" the icon depicts the cave of patmos, in which the evangelist john is dictating to his disciple prochoros. John turns his head to heaven, from which projects the hand of god blessing and rays, one of which is directed towards the evangelist. Prochoros, sitting opposite him, writes on an open scroll the beginning of john's gospel: in the beginning the logoc and the log[oc] (ioan. 1. 1). Between the two figures there is a low desk and lectern, on which is a scroll, on which is written the beginning of the apocalypse. On the desk are the instruments for writing, and in the depths of the cave, hanging from a nail is a basket of rolled-up manuscripts. Date: 1602.
