in 1927, xu was introduced by his good friend, huang manshi to well-known singaporean businessman lim cheng gee (林志义), also known as lim loh (林路). Xu was commissioned to paint the portraits for lim and his family who ran successful businesses in brick and biscuit manufacturing in singapore.
