The Amorous Thief or, The Lover's Larceny, 1777

Satire on courtship: a fashionable young woman sleeps in a chair, having dropped at her feet a book lettered 'the agreeable dream realiz'd; a young officer leans across a table to kiss her cheek; in the background a maidservant admires the ring with which she has been bribed to let him into the room; the young woman holds a chain attached to the collar of a pet squrrel (a symbol for lasciviousness) stealing fruit from a basket on the table beside which is another book lettered 'chloe caught napping'; on the wall behind hangs a picture of cupid with a butterfly and a rose bush.
