It was painted by murillo originally for the capuchin convent of seville, around the year 1665, and was donated to the cathedral of seville in 1814 by the monks of said convent as gratitude for having guarded their artistic treasure in 1810, during the spanish war of independence. Many of the works of art from the convent and the seville cathedral were moved to gibraltar to avoid the plunder of marshal soult. However, the canvas that was paired with this work, and that represented saint michael the archangel, disappeared in the aforementioned transfer, although both paintings were not part of the cycles located in the convent church, but were found in its interior rooms. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1665. Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Catedral de Sevilla. Lienzo del altar del Ángel de la Guarda (Catedral de Sevilla)
