Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-11-26) letter no. Blank (1944-11-28) next letter (1944-12-04) envelope: front back text my thoughts were especially with you on these days. How i would have loved to be with you myself! everything is still ok with me, i am healthy and happy. There is a lot of work to do until late, usually until 7:30 in the evening. But afterwards it is nice to have our nice little room with a radio; when you can hear the fire crackling in the stove it is nice and secret. - by chance i also made a very nice acquaintance and got to know a nice girl. This time she was really great; she works in a pharmacy and wants to continue studying after the war. Her father is a town councilor in blankenburg, they have a villa, her three brothers are officers, the eldest is a major with a knight's cross. Well, you probably wouldn't have thought that i could do that? i often wonder why she was looking for a little soldier like me. We have a very nice, friendly relationship and we get on well. You don't need to worry about that, i'm sensible enough to know that this isn't a woman to marry, even though she's very pretty. The thought would probably never occur to either of us. We go to the cinema or mostly into the local area and then we romp around like little children. It's just something completely different to all the girls who are already running after soldiers these days. So you see, i still have nice days and i'm happy. The pilots have been visiting us more often recently. Date: 28 November 1944.
