this illustration can be found on page 60 of the hugues edition. Reproduces the drawing by victor hugo known from the tracing kept in the museum (inv. No. 49) and the engraving made by edmond hédouin, in 1844, under the title "the old town". This drawing has long been considered a study for the burg at the cross.
