West view mellor muslin mill2, Joseph Parry, circa 1802

"view of mellor mill, in marple near stockport," (1802). This cotton mill was built by stockport industrialist samuel oldknow in 1790-3. He was england's leading manufacturer of muslin, which had previously only been made in east bengal. The building was six stories high, and the mill was powered by a waterwheel fed by water from a nearby river diverted into a series of mill ponds. Joseph parry (1744-1826) manchester artist.
