iconographic description:
a giant marianne wearing a phrygian cap walks on a representation of the earth, and separates the good elements of the government from the bad, who, holding in their hands papers containing episodes in which they have distinguished themselves (or in any case, which have attracted the attention of the caricaturists), are violently thrown out of the basket and flutter in the air. Some try to hang on to the basket, like louis-philippe for example. We can also recognize, in the process of falling: guizot clinging to his "history of the // revolution // of england" and his "doctrine", lobau carrying bags of gold, riding a clyster syringe (in connection with the repression with fire hoses in may 1831) and accompanied by an "aide // de // camp" (lobau had received this title as well as money as a reward for his dispersal of the demonstrators), keratry seen from behind holding "the last of the // beaumanoirs" (work that he wrote), thiers, with his "history // of the // revolution" (work that he wrote), ganneron "the maker // of // candles", dupin and his "praise of the // gendarmes", barthe "carbonaro" (reference to his past), soult and his "defense[. . . ] [defense of] toulouse", etienne who wrote "les // deux // gendres", périer and his "opposition // for // 15 years", sébastiani and his principle of "non // intervention" (reference to the non-intervention of france in the affairs of belgium and poland), schonen and his "compliment // to a // royal mustard" (cf. Pl. 93 of number 46), persil, lameth and his “request // to the // old // girls”, mignet, a man clinging to his painter's easel (decamps, who would have received money from the government so that he would stop his activity as a caricaturist?), viennet enveloped in his “epistle to the […] [to the] // chiffonni […] chiffonniers]” and his “ode to the // mules of // miguel” (two works that he wrote) … and finally prunelle, madier de montjau “fallen so low, so low, that we can no longer see them! » (in explanation). We see that members of the current government, pl. Leaves none left: no good grain, only tares, of which the pl. Would like to rid france. The title, by referring to the words of christ, gives a sacred tone to the mission that france will have to accomplish. The pl. Places himself as judge of good and bad. On the idea of sorting, cf. Pl. 305 (number 146; august 22, 1833). Person / character depicted:
thiers, adolphe; louis-philippe i, king of the french; schonen, auguste jean marie de, baron; dupin, andré marie jean-jacques (known as dupin elder); etienne, charles guillaume; kératry, auguste hilarion de, count; madier de montjau, joseph paulin; périer, casimir; lameth, charles malo françois de, count; viennet, jean pons guillaume; sebastiani, horace; guizot, françois; parsley, jean-charles; soult, nicolas-jean de dieu; barthe, felix; mouton, georges, count of lobau
