An eskimo winter house at plover (provideniya) bay, chukotka, russia, photographed 1899 by edward s curtis, a member of the harriman alaska expedition. The walls of the house are framed with whale bones and filled with sod and moss; the roof is walrus hide over poles. Date: 1899, published 1901.
