"Mrs. de Montespan" (generic title), Jean Petitot, between 1625 and 1690

So-called portrait of madame de montespan (1640-1707), mistress of louis xiv, but is probably a depiction of maria theresa of spain (1638-1683), the king's wife. Identification proposed by user ecummenic (talk) based on the comparison with some portraits of queen maria theresa (see images below) and the lack of physical resemblance of the sitter of this portrait to verified representations of madame de montespan. Date: between 1625 and 1690. Dimensions: height: 1.5 in (38.1 mm); width: 1.2 in (31.7 mm). Medium: enamel on miniature. Collection: Victoria and Albert Museum. Attributed to Jean Petitot - So-called portrait of Madame de Montespan - VAM
