Ivan fomich khrutsky. 1810— 1885 family portrait 1854 i. F. Khrutsky — portraitist, landscape painter, still life master. He was born in the town of ule, lepel district, vitebsk province, into a priest’s family. Around 1827 he came to st. Petersburg and studied at the academy of arts under a. G. Varnek. He received the title of free artist, “in view of his good knowledge of landscape painting” (1836), and academician (1839). Following this, he moved to vilnius, working primarily on religious paintings and portraits. From 1850 he lived on his estate zakharevichi near polotsk. The painting reproduces the landscape of the western provinces of russia. The composition of the family portrait shows the artist’s knowledge of the traditions of old european and polish painting (the arrangement of figures in the form of a classical “triangle”, a profile turn, rarely encountered in russian art). The group is brought to the foreground, but not separated from the landscape, with which it is connected by a common lyrical feeling. Date: 1854. Khrutsky-Family portrait
