The map belongs to the work "tabularum geographicum contractarum", a small-format world atlas that is an extension of bernardt languenes' "caert-thresoor", of which several editions were made, the first in 1600. This map, which corresponds to that of 1616, with texts by the author in latin, is one of those compiled by various authors for this work, among others pieter van der keere and jodocus hondius. A son of the latter, brother-in-law of bertius, produced this edition. Frame labeled with degrees and 6' subdivisions, showing the cardinal points. Origin meridian of longitudes: do corvo island (azores islands). In the lower left corner, a cornucopia cartouche with the title. In the upper margin, outside the frame, another title and the order number of the map within the atlas. Below, in an incomplete cornucopia, the graphic scale. Relief represented by profiles of depressed mountains, with normals. Planimetry: cities, represented by a circle with a building, drawing of kingdom boundaries and some bridges. The hydrography shows the main network, naming only the miño river. The coast is highlighted with a horizontal striped pattern. The sea striped in a zigzag, simulating waves. Scarce toponymy, in latin. Lettering: romanilla and italic letters. Dated during the reign of philip iii (1598-1621). Date: 1616.
