iconographic description:
peristyle of the louvre, current 1st arrondissement. Under the peristyle, as it was before the restoration (carried out during the second empire), are installed, on the entrance side, a bookseller and a street vendor; opposite, in the foreground, a flower seller. A woman accompanied by children seems to observe the rider as he advances in the daylight passing through the entrance; in the shadows we can see other entrances against the walls of the passage.
