Admiral seymour gives the order during the retreat to tientsin: "the germans to the front!" june 22nd, 1900 "the seymour expedition was meanwhile retreating to tientsin and was in danger of being wiped out. The number of casualties was high. In this critical situation for the allied soldiers for the first time in a long time, on june 22nd, 1900, before the storming of an arsenal, seymour made the statement "the germans to the front", which later became mythical in germany. The painting of the same title by carl röchling, which shows german soldiers fighting bravely in china, was considered an icon of german historical painting on colonial history and was widely distributed in countless reproductions and prints.
