Dong Yong (Tō Ei), Utagawa Kuniyoshi, circa 1840

Inscription: dong yong. Too poor to be able to bury his father, he sold himself. On his way home from the burial he met a beautiful woman on the street. Following her instructions he went home with her and in the course of a month she wove two hundred bolts of silk to repay [dong yong’s] debt to his master and after, she flew up to the heavens from where she had been sent to help dong yong because of his filial heart.
