My dear mum! i want to send you my warmest regards. I've been with the company for three days now and i've settled in really well. I've also found my comrade again who i used to share a hole with - i was very happy. Now i'm outside myself and i can assure you it's really quiet here. Now and again a shot is fired but it's totally unimportant. Date: 7 November 1942.
