'Princess Royal after Jutland' RMG PV2651, William Lionel Wyllie, 1916

'princess royal after jutland' inscribed by the artist, as title, lower right. This shows the battlecruiser 'princess royal' (1911) with a tug alongside, probably approaching portsmouth harbour, where she had her battle damage repaired in the naval dockyard during june and early july 1916. Her torpedo nets were removed during this repair period. Pencil sketches at the bottom of the sheet show a rowed cutter, the broadside view of a cargo vessel, a hoist of signal flags and an indecipherable diagram. Date: 1916. Dimensions: 246 mm x 308 mm. Collection: Fine art.
