The painting represents saint clare of assisi, dressed in the habit of a franciscan and carrying in her hands a monstrance with the ss. Sacrament iconographic attribute that is associated with her and that has to do with an episode in her life in which her convent was besieged by muslims, all it took for the saint to show her custody was to put them on the run. The saint appears portrayed in three quarters, facing slightly to the left, with her face turned towards the monstrance she holds in her hands. She wears the habit of the franciscans, in black, gray and white and presents the halo that identifies her as a saint. The golden monstrance, large in relation to the saint and quite elaborate, occupies as important a place in the painting as this one and is painted with great detail, showing a wealth of goldsmithing work. In the background, on the right side, a grove of trees painted with great detail, in various shades of green. On the left side, the attack by muslims on the convent of s. Damião, where the saint lived, behind it some houses and a sky painted in a gradation of blue-green that goes from the lightest to the darkest, with plenty of luminosity. Highlight is the profound contrast between the quite voluminous proportions of the saint and the monstrance and the smaller scale on which the background of the painting is painted.
