After escaping the wrath of his father, saint francis of assisi was welcomed by bishop guido of assisi, making before this prelate a legal renunciation of all his property, going so far as to strip away his purse and his clothes, which he left at the feet of his father, while exclaiming: "until now i have given the name of father to peter bernardone, but having proposed to serve god, i return this money for which i was so worried and these clothes that i have received from him, to to be able to say with more reason from today onwards: "our father who art in heaven", and no longer pedro bernardone". After hearing these words from his son, the merchant took the clothes and money and left, while the bishop covered francisco's nakedness with his own cloak.
