Cygnus Transformed into a Swan - Ovid's *Metamorphoses*, Book II, Giuseppe Barberi

Cygnus, the son of sthenelus, is transformed into a swan in grief over the death of phatheon (ovid's metamorphoses, ii, 373). Lamenting women in front of a sarcophagus, a running person turns into a swan. The sarcophagus reads: "fetonte e qui che la non te / nne in frene / i cavalli febej, tenbollo almeno".
