Dimensions: Haussmann's work was the inspiration for a variety of satirical and political cartoons during the Second Empire. Honoré Daumier, a political and satirical painter, sculptor, and caricaturist, was a prominent figure in the satirical criticism of Haussmann and his urbanization of Paris. Haussmann's renovations and developments of Paris depended on the demolition and destruction of many residential properties and traditional quarters. As a result, many Parisians were forced to leave their homes and relocate to make room for demolition, as represented here by Daumier.. Medium: drawing. Collection: Brown University Library.
