Detail of the map of provence produced by pierre-jean bompar as part of a representation of the regions of gaul in a realistic description. The work was included in abraham ortelius's and published in 1594 in the work theatrum orbis terrarum. The map mentions the parishes of la garde [la garde-freinet], grimault [grimaud], s. Maixime [sainte-maxime], cogolin, la molle [la môle], gassin, s. Trompes [saint-tropez], ramatuelle, as well as territories outside the current gulf of saint-tropez: roquebrune [roquebrune-sur-argens], gonfaron, bormes [bormes-les-mimosas], as well as brégançon, and la verne [chartreuse de la verne], as well as a disappeared parish, le revest. Other geographical details are shown such as rivers, capes (de saint-vincent, de lhlelbe, de portes, talliat [taillat], lardier) and islands (les jardinieres, teste de can, formigue).
