Inscription on memorial reads: tshimakain. 1838-1908. Commemorating the establishment of a mission among the spokane indians on these grounds by the reverends cushing eells and elkanah walker from sept. 1838 to mar. 1848. On this spot stood the eels home. Erected by the state historical society and the congregational churches of washington. See also photos 1891 and 1880
