Imaginary portrait of king alfonso vii of león (1105-1157). He was the son of queen urraca i of león and count raymond of burgundy. He was the first king of the royal house of burgundy in león and on may 26, 1135 he was crowned imperator totius hispaniae (emperor of spain) in the cathedral of león, receiving tribute, among others, from his brother-in-law ramón berenguer iv, count of barcelona. He died in 1157, at the age of 51, and upon his death, the kingdom of león was inherited by his son, ferdinand ii of león, and the kingdom of castile was inherited by his first-born son, sancho iii of castile.
