Albertine agnes (1634-1696), the second daughter of prince friedrich heinrich and countess amalia von solms-braunfels, was married to wilhelm friedrich von nassau-diez (1613-1664) in kleve in 1652. Her husband was 20 years older and a distant cousin; he had just been elevated to the rank of imperial prince and was the governor of friesland. The couple lived in the frisian residence in leeuwarden. In 1664, the prince fatally injured himself while cleaning a pistol. The widow had oranienstein castle in diez converted into a widow's residence. The nassau-diez line acquired the right to the inheritance of the older house of orange through albertine-agnes. It was succeeded by the son heinrich kasimir ii (1657-1696), then by his son johann wilhelm friedrich / friso (1687-1711). Mitjens shows the princess as the goddess diana accompanied by two dogs. She wears a pink-orange robe with a sheer veil to emphasize her movement. Like her sisters, she wears her hair fashionably held by a string of pearls. Text by ursula blanchebarbe.
