Prvni.Rozsudek.06.08.1940, 6 August 1940

(description and translation) notification of the presidium of the ministry of the interior (no. P-2658-9/9-1940) addressed to mr. Josef churavé (supreme trade union council of the ministry of the interior, military geographical institute, prague), which informs him of: death sentence, dismissal from civil service, forfeiture of all rights and claims arising from his previous employment relationship. From november 30, 1938, colonel josef churavý served as deputy commander of the military geographical institute (vzú). On march 15, 1939, the military geographical institute (vzú) was occupied by the german army, and later (april 18, 1939) the protectorate government transferred it to the ministry of the interior (mv) and renamed it the geographical institute of the ministry of the interior (zúmv). Former colonel josef churavý was transferred to the position of the trade union council of the ministry of the interior and, together with the commander of the vzú, continued to perform his duties. In order to prevent the nazis from getting into the hands of the result of twenty years of work of the vzú, which could be misused, since the autumn of 1938 (at the order of josef churavý), brave members of the vzú made and hid copies and duplicates of geodetic and cartographic documents and maps. Thus (on the initiative of josef churavý) about 25 trucks of various materials that the german armed forces might need were cleared from vzú (according to oral information) - especially valuable instruments, theodolites, telescopes, thousands of films and aerial photographs, lithographic plates, negatives, elaborations and other material. The excessive "poorness" of the inventory of such a large institute as vzú did not escape the attention of the reich land surveying office (reichsamt für landesaufnahme (rfl)), whose representative - a reich german and a high official of the rfl - dipl. Ing. F. Seidel was entrusted by the germans with the supervisory administration over vzú/zúmv. At the end of january 1940 dipl. Ing. F. Seidel went to bratislava to negotiate with the slovaks about their claim to part of the equipment of the vzú/zúmv. (the slovak republic was already proclaimed on march 14, 1939, and on september 1, 1939 it established its military geographical institute, which claimed the vzú/zúmv map and surveying material for the territory of the "slovak state". ) during this meeting, dipl. Ing. F. Seidel reliably established that many devices are missing from vzú/zúmv. On february 6, 1940, a large-scale arrest of employees (former officers) of the vzú/zúmv began. Josef churavý avoided arrest by going underground. On the basis of the investigation and the statements of the accused employees, josef churavý was revealed as the main initiator of the whole action and in absentia on august 6, 1940 he was sentenced (by the military field court martial for bohemia) for the crime of disloyalty ("untreue") (according to section 266, paragraph 2 of the reich criminal code) and for sabotage (according to the order of the reich protector of august 26, 1939) to the death penalty. As a result of this judgment, josef churavý was dismissed from the civil service on august 6, 1940. At the same time, from that day on, both he and his family forfeited all rights and claims that had arisen on the basis of his previous employment relationship (and which, therefore, he could no longer claim for the administration of the protectorate of bohemia and moravia). Even though parts of the hidden geodetic and cartographic material exported from vzú/zúmv were eventually discovered by the german authorities through an inconsistent conspiracy, the hiding of these materials and their duplicates enabled (after the end of the second world war) and the liberation in may 1945 the rapid restoration of the activity and production of the military geographical service. Date: 6 August 1940.
