"adoration of the shepherds" from the private collection of the moscow collector v. A. Logvinenko. "adoration of the shepherds" has a chamber character and is distinguished by an emphatically everyday interpretation of the gospel plot. The right part of the composition with the figures of mary, the baby, the shepherd, the youth and the shepherdess goes back to the group of characters of the large altarpiece "adoration of the shepherds" (or "nativity"), executed by rubens in 1608 for the church of san spirito in the city of fermo. In the small picture there is no group of angels above the manger and the figure of joseph. The "cabinet" "adoration of the shepherds", saturated with genre motifs, is characterized by a narrative beginning, which distinguishes it from the elevated structure of other altarpieces. The general character of the coloring of "adoration" from the collection of v. A. Logvinenko logvinenko is close to the hermitage sketch, although it is difficult to compare these works in terms of their pictorial style, since the sketch is painted in a broad, energetic manner, while the moscow painting is executed with a thin brush and smaller strokes. The landscape background is typical of rubens's works of the italian and early antwerp periods. The figures of the right and left parts of the composition reveal a closeness to the master's pictorial style (an x-ray of the work reveals the whitewash preparation of the composition, typical of rubens). However, a number of places in the composition (for example, the awkward intertwining of the hands of several characters in the middle of the second plan), as well as the professional nature of execution, which does not correspond to the level of rubens himself, make us assume that the painting was begun by rubens and finished by one of the artist's students. Date: 17th century.
