Burkersroda d. May 22nd, 1938. Dear mum, i hope you received my mother’s day card? i wish you all the best again. I received your lovely letter on tuesday but have only just gotten around to writing. I’m getting used to getting up early now. I’m pleased with how you write. You often think of me. My thoughts are always with you in my free time. How lovely it is to know that “she is thinking of you now”. We have boys with us who have no relatives or parents now. That’s really sad. But let’s leave it at that. I have karl here too, we often chat about home - you write because i need it. Would you be so kind and send me my cap and half shoes, one of erich's old shirts and white rags as a handkerchief, because [the] latter [get much too dirty]. Date: 22 May 1938.
