The photo shows kazimierz lauer, ensign of the 3rd infantry regiment of the polish legions, against the background of the dugout. Kazmierz lauer (born 1894, died after 1916) studied engineering before world war i. After the outbreak of the war, he joined the polish legions, initially assigned to the 2nd infantry regiment. In december 1914 he was transferred to the newly created 3rd infantry regiment. After the battle of kostiuchnówka (july 4-6, 1916), he was promoted to second lieutenant. Infantry. (xi rank, order of the lp command no. 231 of august 18, 1916). On april 5, 1917, he was listed as an officer of the 12th company of the 3rd infantry regiment entitled to be awarded the austrian charles military cross (caw ref. I. 120. 1. 101 p. 311). On june 28, 1938, the president of the republic of poland awarded him the cross of independence. The officer's further fate is unknown. The photo was probably taken in the polish forest on the section of the front near kostiuchnówka. Date: styczeń-luty 1916.
