The raft bridge with Goethe's garden house in front of the park design, Georg Melchior Kraus, 1776
The raft bridge with goethe's garden house before the park was designed. This beautiful picture shows the ilm meadow area around the garden house in its original state before the park was designed. Goethe began reshaping the left bank of the ilm in the spring of 1778, and the luisenfest in july of that year saw the conversion of the shooting wall with the powder house visible here into a hermitage with a chapel in honor of duchess luise. This "luisenfest" resulted in further path and meadow design, which the visit of wörlitz shortly before (may 1778) transformed into a purposeful landscape design. Date: 1776. Medium: watercolor.
