historical commentary:
the reference model drawn by c. Monnet, and engraved by i. S. Helman, was removed to illustrate the 5th plate of the collection "the french revolution from the opening of the states-general until the 9th of brumaire, in 15 tables. . . ", published in 1838, originally titled: "main days of the revolution" (cf. De vinck nº3776). The engraving by vinkeles and vryjdag, which is reproduced here by the engraver gillot, in the form of a facsimile, constituted the 20th plate of the "tafereelen van de staatsomwenteling in frankrijk" (1794-1807), dutch version of the "historical pictures of the french revolution" (1791-1817), cf. "the revolution through engraving"
