The document on the table refers to the treaty that defined the borders of the spanish american colonies and the free navigation of the missisppi river up to the city of new orleans, stipulated on 27 october 1795 at the monastery of san lorenzo all'escorial in spain (hence the name treaty of san lorenzo), with the names of the two contracting parties, whose pens in the inkwell just used for the signature can be seen, thomas pinckney (1750-1828), and the prince of peace, i. E. Manuel godoy (1767-1851), prime minister of king charles iv of spain. Date: 1796.
