The Brazen Column and Egyptian Obelisk, the Blue Mosque and Haghia Sophia., Harald Jerichau, between 1872 and 1878
Jerichau visited turkey twice between 1872 and 1875. This is a view from the hippodrome, with two columns (obelisks) presumed to originally have been erected by emperor theodosius. The brazen column is also known as the column of constantine, the 10th-century emperor who restored it. The egyptian obelisk dates to around 1500bc.
