The prints were brought from amsterdam in one or more stacks as merchandise. Almost three centuries later, in 1871, the norwegian elling carlsen returned to nova zembla and found the remains of the 'preserved house', including a large part of the inventory. Some of the prints, in the form of caked clods, were also found. The clumps of paper were sometimes broken in several places. The prints were separated between 1975 and 1979. This resulted in a total of approximately 1000 fragments of approximately 400 prints of approximately 150 different prints. As far as possible, the fragments have been put together and the prints have been reconstructed. Topic: what: the meeting between esau and jacob. Journey of barendsz and van heemskerck in 1596.
