"baron roger portalis first, and anne-marie passez then, suggested that this pastel would be a collaborative work between maurice-quentin de la tour, for the head, and his young student adélaïde labille-guiard for the rest of the pastel. A. -m. Passez compares the style of face, with pronounced wrinkles, and different from the usually smoother work of labille-guiard, to the portrait of father emmanuel at the antoine lécuyer museum in saint-quentin (c. Debrie in maurice-quentin de la tour, prince des pastelistes, paris, 2000, p. 81, fig. 29). Labille-guiard studied with la tour between 1769 and 1775, the year of his marriage and his first public exhibition at the académie de saint-luc. The pastel can be dated exactly to 1775, the end of labille guiard's collaboration with la tour, thanks to the 'à la thérèse' bonnet worn by the model. " [1]. Object Type: painting.
