Delacroix's destroyed painting "justinian writing his laws" seen in a photograph by andré adolphe eugène disdéri of a hall at the paris world's fair (1855) dedicated to delacroix's work. The work, painted for the headquarters of the council of state in paris, in the palais d'orsay, was destroyed in the building's fire during the events of the paris commune in may 1871.
