Koerner, executed it to illustrate a western short story entitled 'the slipper tongue,' published in the saturday evening post in 1916. " (however, according to the google books scan of this issue, the painting that accompanies 'the slipper tongue' is different. ) since it was published before 1923 in the united states, it is in the public domain.
