Sheperdess among goats and sheep, Pieter van Laer, 1636

Sheperdess among goats and sheep, Pieter van Laer, 1636

Towards the end of the right side of this section we see a cabin, and a little further ahead stand two large trees, at the bottom of which sits a young peasant woman busy reeling. At his feet rest five goats and rams, three of which are directed to the left and two to the right of the print. One of the latter is standing, the others are lying down. On the front left, a goat, facing right, is lying on a small rise, at the bottom of which a cut tree trunk and branch can be seen. The background shows a hedge which adjoins the hut, and which extends over the entire width of the board. Object Type: etching print. Date: 1636.
