Mirror view in diascope of an autochrome of percy mackaye (1875–1956) as alwyn, the poet, a character in percy mackaye's play sanctuary: a bird masque, in rehearsal for first performance at the meriden bird club sanctuary dedication in new hampshire. The original is a photograph: autochrome, color; 5×7 in. The play, written in verse, told of a hunter’s redemption by his prey, the bird spirit. At a time when demand for feathers in hats and other products was harming entire species, the play helped promote the wild bird conservation movement. [1]. Date: 1913.
