The work represents jesus christ sitting, awaiting death on golgotha, next to the empty cross and the clothes that the executioners have stripped from him. It is the iconographic theme known as christ on the cold stone (sometimes confused with ecce homo, in which christ is next to pilate at the doors of the praetorium), more used in sculpture than in painting, where it is almost exceptional. This is one of the first known examples in painting, which demonstrates once again the originality of its author in translating sacred themes. Object Type: painting. Genre: religious art. Date: between circa 1496 and circa 1497. Dimensions: height: 30.9 cm (12.1 in); width: 27.7 cm (10.9 in). Medium: oil on panel. Collection: Museo del Prado. Cristo sobre la piedra fría, de Juan de Flandes (Museo del Prado)
