iconographic description:
modified ground floor plan of the temple of redemption (protestant church), 16 rue chauchat, 9th arrondissement. Religious architecture. Entrance with location of the pillars, rectangular nave flanked by projecting pillars separating the galleries, sacristy, catechism room, hemicycle (facing west), side corridors. Historical commentary:
built in 1812, the protestant church of billettes (current 4th arrondissement) very quickly became too cramped and the duchess of orléans had to intervene to demand the opening of a new temple. Inaugurated in june 1843, the temple of redemption is the conversion into a sanctuary of the old customs hall (completed in 1825 by lusson, architect 1790-1864). Outside, gau was forced to respect the main original lines and limited himself to building the portal of the facade. Inside, he modified almost everything for the sake of austerity. Gau created other religious buildings (the sainte clothilde church) and civil buildings (grande-roquette prison). Institution: carnavalet museum, history of paris
inventory number: d. 11921. Date: En 1842.
