W.L. Loth - Kaart van Suriname (1899) - Blad A

Here we see the first 'modern' map of suriname. However, the accuracy is still no greater than that of its predecessors. Loth's overland routes made it possible to better map the mutual relationship between the best-known rivers. These routes were inspired by research into gold. The southeastern half of suriname is well represented on the map. The cause is the stated concessions for gold and balata. Most of the map area covers an almost unknown wilderness. Date: 1898 (creation) 1899 (publication).
